Cow is the most important ruminant animal having one stomach with four compartments. It is known for regurgitating and re-chewing their food known as cud chewing. The cud is then swallowed again and further digested by specialized microorganisms in the rumen. These microbes are primarily responsible for decomposing cellulose and other carbohydrates into volatile fatty acids cattle use as their primary metabolic fuel.

Cattle’s have the ability to produce large quantities of milk if served with a proper diet. Depending on the market condition, they are labeled as a dairy cattle or beef cattle. Vikram Protiens Pvt. Buffalo have slower ruminal movements. The rumen has important differences from that of other ruminants such as it contains a larger population of bacteria, particularly the cellulolytic bacteria, lower protozoa and higher fungi zoospores. In addition, higher rumen ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) and higher pH have been found as compared to those in cattle. It is otherwise called as “Living Tractor” due to fulfillment of laborious works to the farmers in their fields.
